Description

John Roberts became Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States in 2005, so the Roberts Court is not new. However, with the addition of three new Justices between 2017 and 2020, the Court has changed. In the last few years, the Court has issued several landmark decisions that have overturned long-standing precedent and dramatically captured the attention of the general public. A new Roberts Court has emerged.

This workshop will examine ways in which the Supreme Court has shifted its approach towards the power of the executive branch, the importance of history in interpreting the Constitution, and the standards for overturning precedent on important questions. Join us in exploring this topic in a spirit of exploration and mutual understanding. This presentation will be accessible to non-lawyers and lawyers who do not practice constitutional law.
